Tenrikyo Mission Center in Colombia Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

On March 20, Tenrikyo Mission Center in Colombia conducted the service to commemorate its 50th anniversary. On the day of the service, 102 people gathered at the center, with preventative measures taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19 such as asking participants to show vaccination certificates, wear masks, and sanitize their hands as well as ensuring effective ventilation. In addition, there were people who participated online not only from Colombia but also from other countries in South America and Japan.

Before the service, Rev. Naotaro Shimizu, head of the mission center, read out a message from the Shinbashira. Spanish interpretation was given by Takumasa Kondo, head minister of Shimagahara Colombia Church.

In his message, the Shinbashira explained that a mission center is established to help followers in the country and the surrounding region to bring their minds into unity with the intention of God the Parent and to deepen their faith while helping one another. He said, “I would like you to inherit the conviction of faith of your predecessors who devoted their sincerity to the mission in Colombia and pass it on to your successors.”

After the service, Rev. Shimizu took the podium to address the participants. He explained that the completion of the mission center’s sanctuary marked a milestone in followers’ spiritual growth in Colombia and that the center is a place that has the role of promoting the Joyous Life. He also stated, “I would like us to be grateful for our predecessors’ devotion and efforts and to strive to make the center a model for the Joyous Life in Colombia.”
