This year’s Tenrikyo Nioigake Day was observed between September 26 and 30, concluding the month that Tenrikyo annually designates as the month to vigorously engage in sprinkling the fragrance of the teachings.
Due to the spread of COVID-19 infection, the theme for this year’s Nioigake Day was set as “Let us convey the teachings to those close to us.” While it was difficult for church head ministers, Yoboku, and other followers to walk around and do missionary work, each of them engaged in sprinkling the fragrance of the teachings to those close to them, including their family members, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers.
In some areas, there were followers who carried out door-to-door missionary work, spread the name of God, and gave roadside speeches after taking measures to prevent infections. Also, many Yoboku and followers made their own creative efforts, such as standing on streets with a “nioigake message sign” produced by the Missionary Department; sending letters and postcards to people they cared about but could not meet easily because of the pandemic; and using the Internet to widely sprinkle the fragrance of the teachings on social media.
