On April 8, the International Network for Mutual Help, an international aid organization based in the Overseas Department, held its annual charity bazaar on the department’s premises, drawing about 500 people. The organization collects and provides information on international aid in cooperation with the department’s overseas mission facilities and various Tenrikyo groups engaged in international relief efforts. The charity bazaar aims to support relief activities. Among the items on offer this year were daily necessities including stationeries, baby goods, and clothing chests.
People began to line up more than an hour before the opening. As soon as the venue was opened at 11:00 a.m., the crowd packed the venue, and a long line formed at the checkout counter at one point.
In the outdoor space were several food booths offering international specialties, such as churrasco (Brazilian grilled beef), Nepali curry, and Taiwanese noodles. Some members of Tenrikyo Boys and Girls Association Headquarters set up a game booth for children while Tenri Elementary School’s dance team “Smile Grapes” gave a lively dance performance on the stage in front of the visitors.
The proceeds from the bazaar, amounting to 322,079 yen, were added to the network’s funds and will be used for future international support activities.
