Tenri Sankokan Museum Receives Award

Sankokan Museum, reopened on its present site in November 2001, is one of only several public institutions recently commended by Nara Prefecture for having achieved a high level of barrier free accessibility.

In 1997 Nara Prefecture passed a municipal ordinance designed to promote barrier free environments and has since given annual commendations to institutions and facilities that demonstrated outstanding efforts to enhance accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities.

In a commendation ceremony held on February 13 in a hotel in the city of Nara, Vice Governor Isao Masui presented a certificate of commendation to Sankokan Museum Head Hidenori Kimura. In addition, Church Headquarters’ Architects and Civil Engineers Section and Takenaka Corporation, jointly responsible for designing and constructing the museum’s building, received commendations.
