The theme music to promote the pre-anniversary activities for the 140th Anniversary of Oyasama was recently released by the Salvation Work Committee.
The title of the music is “Shun no kaze (Catching the Season’s Wind).” As we move forward to the anniversary of Oyasama, the music was created to raise awareness of everyone on the path and help each Yoboku and follower become spirited as they engage in the “three years, one thousand days” activities.
Under the supervision of Tenrikyo Institute of Music, the music was composed by Rev. Hirokazu Mitsutake, the head minister of Suko Branch Church, who had previously composed theme songs for the Children’s Pilgrimage to Jiba. An orchestra consisting primarily of members of Tenrikyo Institute of Music recently recorded the music.
While developing the idea for the music, Rev. Mitsutake thought that it must be in line with the Shinbashira’s intention expressed in Instruction Four. What Rev. Mitsutake wanted to present in the music the most was “the spirited mind,” so the fanfare at the outset expresses, in its melody, the spirited mind of humans and his understanding of the phrase “to unite the minds” used at the beginning of the Instruction. The string music that follows the fanfare describes Oyasama’s parental love demonstrated in Her Divine Model. The last part, played on both brass and string instruments, shows how we followers of the path make progress in our spiritual growth embraced by the profound parental love of Oyasama.
The music is instrumental and does not contain lyrics. Its length is two minutes and forty-eight seconds.
On October 20, “Shun no kaze (Catching the Season’s Wind)” became available for everyone to listen to and download through the special website for the 140th Anniversary of Oyasama.
Rev. Yoshiji Matsumura, the chairperson of the Salvation Work Committee, said, “I hope the music will be effectively used at events and activities to be held at the levels of churches, dioceses, and districts.”
