1,200 Attend Overseas Seminar for Successors

From last August to late March this year—a period in which the Seminar for Successors took place in 25 sessions in Japan drawing a total of 21,252 participants—overseas sessions of this seminar were attended by 1,272 participants in 25 countries and regions. Three venues in Africa are scheduled to host this seminar by September, bringing the Overseas Seminar for Successors to a close.

Intended for followers between the ages of 20 and 40, the Seminar for Successors has been held with the theme “Implementing the Joyous Life in our daily lives.” Those who attended the seminar in Japan engaged in the classes and activities over a period of two nights and three days, learning how to make greater progress on the path of spiritual growth by finding joy each day and following this path in high spirits.

The overseas seminar, held at mission headquarters, mission centers, etc., used the same material as the Seminar for Successors in Japan, although tailored to reflect local needs.

The seminar in Brazil was held on March 30 and 31 at the Mission Headquarters in Brazil. Participants living over 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi.) away from the mission headquarters were provided with travel subsidies and those with children had access to day care. The event drew a total of 350 participants, 40 more than the last seminar held 10 years ago.

In Nepal, the seminar was held on March 10 at Tenrikyo Nepal Renrakusho. The staff members had started preparations about six months before in order to give the participants the best experience. A total of 54 people participated in the event, half of whom came to the Renrakusho for the first time.

This year, the Overseas Seminar for Successors was organized for the first time in Laos, Cambodia, Canada, and Paraguay. In Laos, it took place at Laos Mission Station with a total of 19 participants.

At Tenrikyo Mission Centre in Europe, the seminar was held on February 17 and 18, with a total of 30 participants. Simultaneous interpretation was provided in English, French, and German.

The seminar also took place in Hawaii, Mexico, and Australia, with many young participants gathered to discuss how to implement the Joyous Life in their daily lives.
