The Autumn Grand Service for the 171st Year of the Teaching

Followers Pledge to Make a Fresh Start on the Path Leading to the Joyous Life

The Autumn Grand Service commemorating the founding of the Teaching was conducted at Tenrikyo Church Headquarters on October 26 with an attendance of 100,000 followers. The Shinbashira, who presided over the Service as chief officiant, left the Staff Quarters with the other Service performers at eight o’clock in the morning–the exact hour at which Oyasama was settled as the Shrine of God on October 26, 1838. They paid respects at the Foundress’ Sanctuary and the Memorial Hall before proceeding to the Main Sanctuary.

In the Service prayer, the Shinbashira first expressed gratitude to God the Parent for the boundless blessings that have resulted in the growth of the path. He went on to say: “On this auspicious day, we Service performers as well as church head ministers and Yoboku will ponder over the truth of the Teaching’s Day of Origin once again and renew our resolve to make further spiritual growth. Receiving the truth of the Service, we will devote our utmost efforts to sprinkling the fragrance of the teachings, engaging in salvation work, and nurturing the successors of the path. Thereby, we are determined to take great strides on the path of single-hearted salvation in unity of mind.”

The Kagura Service and the Dance with Hand Movements were then joyously performed. The followers, including those who filled the four worship halls and the Corridor as well as those who worshiped outside in the drizzling rain, joined together in singing the songs for the Service.

Following the Service performance, the Shinbashira took the podium to deliver the sermon.

According to the Overseas Department, a total of 848 followers returned to the Home of the Parent from 20 countries and regions around the world to attend the Service.
